While it is not the intent of this curriculum project to promote the workshops, prior or concurrent attendance in them would greatly enhance the teacher’s understanding of the underlying concepts in each of the major areas. |
The major areas that are covered in this project include:
Biophilia -- our love and connection to the natural world
Cosmology – the scientific story of the universe
Spirit and Science – the connection between the two
Non-human Animals – animal rights issues
Our Bio-region – the natural habitat we live in
The curriculum lessons can be followed in sequence or used as independent units. Each has English as a Second Language objectives and competencies as well as concurrent Earth Literacy objectives and lessons. In most cases, the lessons may be easily transferred to other campuses and institutions, but a few that are based on the Kendall Campus environment and can be modified to fit other settings with some preparation.
The lessons are presented in the following format.

The ESL level is assumed to be for low or high advanced students (M-DCC’s ESL levels 5 and 6.) The lessons offered in this package have been tried and all have been found to work well. Those that did not have been rejected and the glitches that we encountered have been corrected.
We feel reasonably confident that with a bit of background in the underpinning concepts that most ESL teachers would be able to use these in the classroom.
