Although some people say that smoking is a right that workers have, others realize the negative effects that smoking in the workplace presents to all workers. While people have the right to smoke, they don’t have the right to endanger or negatively affect others around them. Smoking should be banned from the workplace because it presents a health danger to workers, it causes more expenses to employers, and it lowers morale.
How would you feel if your children had to walk through a land mine field everyday on the way to school? Can you imagine the fear and worry your would feel each time your children left the house? Millions of families are faced with this lifestyle. They never know if their children will return home safe and unharmed or if these scars from previous wars will come back to haunt them. Unfortunately although the wars have finished, and there is finally peace, the horror continues. Thousands of children have lost arms, legs, eyes or have been killed while simply going about their daily lives. Opponents of a ban on land mines say that the mines are necessary to protect our troops in battle, but today there are many other alternatives that don’t leave the lasting effects on the surrounding countryside. Land mines should be banned because there are better alternative weapons now, the cost of removing land mines is high, and innocent victims are wounded by land mines.
Animals deserve to have the same rights as humans because they are capable of feeling pain, hunger, loneliness, thirst, and love for families.
President Jimmy Carter said, "Penalties against a drug should not be more dangerous to an individual than the use of the drug itself; and where they are they should be changed. Nowhere is this more clear than in the laws against possession of marijuana." The legalization of marijuana is certainly a controversial topic. There are important people and good arguments on both sides of the issue. Those people who are against the legalization of marijuana are afraid that with legalization there would be an increase in use of the drug and that it would be more available to young people. Marijuana should be legalized because it could be used in the treatment of terminal illness, limiting its use denies individual rights, and it would lower drug related crimes since drug dealers, etc. would be out of business.

The movie Dead Man Walking shows how cruel capital punishment is. Capital punishment must be abolished because innocent people are often executed, it doesn’t reduce crime, and it is more expensive than other forms of punishment.
