Lecture 2:
There is more to
remember about adjectives:
Use adjectives
(not adverbs) after
"sense" verbs, such as appear, become, feel, grow, smell,
look, sound and taste and after the verb to be.
Examples:
Be careful. Some
“sense words” can be used in two different ways, and the meaning will
change.
-
The animal smelled
bad. (The animal needs a bath, so it
will be clean.)
-
The animal smelled
badly, and was useless as a
hunting dog. (The animal does not use its nose very well to find
its way or to find food.)
-
Ice cream
tastes good.
-
The professional
wine taster from France tastes red wines
well.
