Introduction:

CONJUNCTION PAIRS

Preposition of direction / movement (to)

When we give directions, we use the preposition to. For example, we can tell someone who is looking for the hospital in Littletown the following:

“Go to Main Street and turn left. The hospital is on the left, across from the church. “

We also use to to show that someone or something is moving in a direction.

To is used with verbs of movement such as walk, fly, run, swim, bike, drive, etc.

Other examples:

Every morning the children walk to school.

Kate goes to church on Sundays

Dr. James does not go to work on Saturday.

Roberta drives to the hospital every day.

Eric and John moved to Sydney last month.

We also use to to indicate the direction of speech.

Example:  The teacher is talking to a student.
