In the English language, there are two types of articles:
indefinite (a and an)
definite (the)
We'll look at the indefinite articles a and an first.
A and AN
How do we use the indefinite articles a and an?
The indefinite articles a and an are used before singular nouns.
The indefinite article a is used when the next word begins with a consonant letter.
For example:
a tomato
a potato
Use an when the next word begins with a vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u).
an apple
an orange
