L107 Simple Present YES / NO Questions


Introduction:

  • A simple present verb shows a repeated action.

 Example:  They walk to school everyday.
                     The verb in this sentence is walk.

  • We can make a YES/NO question in the simple present tense, with the helping, or auxiliary, verbs do or does
     

  • We can give short answers to YES/NO questions by using do or does

  • How do we make a YES/NO question? 

  • Do you remember how to make a sentence?  We put the subject first, then the verb:

Subject + Verb

   I                see.

  She          swims.

  • We can make a YES/NO question in the simple present tense, with the helping, or auxiliary, verbs do or does

  • To make a YES/NO question, put do or does before the subject, and use the base form of the verb. The base form of the verb means that the verb does not change.

  • If the subject is I, you, we or they, use the auxiliary do.  Remember to use the base form of the verb.

  • If the subject is the 3rd person singular (he, she or it), use does.  Remember to use the base form of the verb (the verb does not change).  The gray boxes in the table above show the 3rd person singular.
